St. David’s youngest students spend their Christian formation time in a specially prepared “atrium”, a child-sized and child-friendly space, containing models and manipulatives representing the church environment, as well as many stories from Scripture. Godly Play, based on the Montessori approach to early childhood education, emphasizes interaction and approachability. Instruction is offered from 10:00-11:00 am on Sundays. Children are sent forth from the 9:15 Family Service to the atrium which is located in the Parish House.
Kindergarten through Grade 6—The House of David
St. David’s is a community of believers and seekers who aspire to provide for children an atmosphere of love and acceptance that encourages individual growth in the knowledge and love of God and of God’s Son, Jesus Christ.
Based on the following principles, we have developed, nurtured and encouraged a Christian formation program that keeps our children engaged and eager to return each week to their parish community:
Guiding Principles
- The path to an engaging and meaningful relationship with God is through Bible literacy
- God’s presence, power, and love has been made evident throughout human history—up to the present time-- in varied, unexpected, and often subtle ways
- The Good News of Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection is expressed most profoundly in community--that is in the connections that our children make with each other, with their church community, and with the world
- God is compelling, engaging, and joy-filled, and if we intend for our children to know and love God, then their Sunday School experiences must be compelling, engaging, and joy-filled as well
