Acolytes

Acolytes at St. David’s offer to the glory of God their gifts in assisting at St. David’s worship services. Their gifts enhance the worship experience for everyone at St. David’s. St David’s Acolytes come in a number of varieties, including crucifers, torch bearers, and book bearers. Crucifers carry the cross and lead the worship procession. Torch bearers follow in procession carrying candles, and usually light and extinguish the candles. Book bearers carry the Gospel book in procession and hold the book for the Gospeller to read from. Altar Guild

The St. David’s Altar Guild offers to the glory of God its gift in caring for the St. David’s sanctuary by maintaining the altar linens, candles, and communion vessels, and preparing the altar for the worship of God. This gift enhances the worship experience for everyone at St. David’s. The Altar Guild is responsible for setting up and clearing the altar for each worship service, as well as generally keeping the sanctuary clean and tidy. Flower Guild

The St. David’s Flower Guild offers to the glory of God its gift in arranging flowers that grace the altars at St. David’s. This gift enhances the worship experience for everyone at St. David’s. The Flower Guild is responsible not only for Sunday and weekday services, but also provides for weddings and funerals. Those who participate in the Flower Guild are encouraged to take the training offered by the Washington National Cathedral. Lay Ministers

Lay Ministers at St. David’s offer to the glory of God their gifts in assisting at St. David’s worship services. Their gifts enhance the worship experience for everyone at St. David’s. St David’s Lay Ministers come in a number of varieties, including lectors and intercessors, chalicists, ushers. Lectors read the appointed Scripture lesson for the day. Intercessors lead the Prayers of the People. Chalicists bear the cup at Communion. Ushers greet people at the door, give them the worship aids they need, present the bread and wine and collection at the offering, and guide people to Communion. Training is offered on a regular basis. With special training and licensing by the Bishop, Lay Ministers can also bring Communion in the form of the Reserved Sacrament to those who are in the hospital or housebound.
