Introducing “Flat Saint David”

While our Sunday School has ended for this program year, our summer fun is just getting started.  This summer we invite you to welcome St. David into your homes!

The idea:

Our St. David will be a flat-Stanley-like figure that will travel from household to household along with the excellent picture book, Paul Writes a Letter by Chis Raschka.  Paul Writes a Letter is about St. Paul and the early church, and contains his letters to fellow Christians.  Although they could not be physically together, they were all spiritually in it together—much as we are now in the time of Covid-19.  Each family who would like to participate will take inspiration from Paul Writes a Letter and write a letter to our parish in the voice of St. David, telling us all about his adventures with you, as well as any advice you may wish to share.  You will add your letter to a binder that will travel with St. David and the story book from household to household.  We would also love for you to add any photos or drawings of your time with flat St. David to the binder.  By the end of the summer we’ll have our own book all about St. David’s summer travels.  We would also like to invite you to record a video of your family reading your letter aloud and send it to us (Lizzie@stdavidsdc.org) so that we may share it with the congregation virtually.

Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing!

Examples of where to take pictures with St. David:

·      Where you normally sit to watch church at home

·      At dinner with your family

·      Having a fun adventure

·      With his own little mask that you made for him, maybe?

Examples of what to write about in your letter:

·      What stories would you like to share with other friends in the church?

·      What is it like to be at home all the time?

·      What advice do you think others could use?

·      Do you have any tips for when you get frustrated?

·      What do you think we can do to create peace and harmony in a house?

·      What advice do you have for other kids, both little kids and big kids? or advice for older siblings and younger siblings?

·      Who are you with? (Paul often said whose house he was staying with!)

·      Who would you like to send greetings to? (Paul often said hello to people far away!)

The logistics:

Each family who wishes to participate will sign up for a week HERE.  You can stop by the church on the Monday of your week and pick up a bin containing the book, St. David, and the binder; and return the bin by the following Monday morning. The pickup and drop off location for the bin is the bench outside the bell tower door.  Alternatively, if you are out of town or it's difficult for you to drive by the church, you can download and print flat St. David HERE.  You can also access a video of me reading the book aloud HERE and can email your letters, pictures, and video to Lizzie@stdavidsdc.org.  Even if you don't sign up for a specific week, you are welcome to jump in at any time by utilizing the downloadable content!

This will be a blast and a great way to connect over the summer!  We can’t wait to see what fun St. David has with you all this summer!  Please reach out if you have any questions!
